On 15-16 September Department of Culture and the archives of Almaty city and SMGE "Association of museums of Almaty city" organized International scientific-practical conference
"Almaty in the stream of history" in the occasion of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence and the 1000th anniversary of the city of Almaty, celebrated under the auspices of UNESCO.
B.K.Baybek, Mayor of Almaty city attended the opening of the Conference and congratulated participants on the 1000 anniversary of Almaty city.
At the opening ceremony, A. S. Chevelev, Director of the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office and M.Zh.Zhurinov, Academician, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan delivered a welcoming address.
The various aspects of scientific issues discussed at the conference, including issues related to the following areas (sections):
- The formation and development of Kazakhstan cities along the Great Silk Road and its influence on political, economic, social and cultural development of the region;
- The relationship of the city and the steppe;
- Prospects for the development of the Almaty tourism cluster.
On 16 September Archive of the President with the city administration organized a round table and historical and documentary exhibition, photo exhibition about Almaty and book exhibition (the works of archaeologists, ethnographers, historians, popular literature) on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the Almaty city, as well as the forthcoming celebration of the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage.
A. S. Chevelev delivered the opening address and told about UNESCO projects aiming at the preservation of the history and culture of Kazakhstan and Central Asia and also about UNESCO Programme "Memory of the World". The Programme aims to preserve the documentary heritage.
Mr. B. A.Dzhaparov, Director of the Archive of the President of Kazakhstan and archivists, members of the ANC and the general public were attended to the event.
