Global Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for police officers and members of law enforcement agencies

11 July 2022

UNESCO and the International Police Association (IPA) will be starting a global Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for police officers and members of law enforcement agencies on freedom of expression and the safety of journalists.

This free, five-week online course will run from the weeks of 11 July until 18 August 2022. A summarized version of the online course will be available in Russian.

Registration portal here: https://www.unesco-ipa-mooc.com.

This course builds on UNESCO’s capacity-building initiatives for law enforcement officials, which have since 2017, trained over 8,600 security forces from 20 countries on freedom of expression and safety of journalists, based on the Training Manual on “Freedom of Expression and Public Order”. The project aims to enable security forces to be more cognizant of their legal obligations to protect media professionals and enhance professional working relationships between these two groups. This is a good opportunity to use this online course for police officers and security forces.

The participation of national police officers in the course would complement the actions of the State to improve the situation of freedom of expression, and human rights more broadly, in the country; and to fulfil their human rights obligations. Just a few weeks until the MOOC starts.
