Nomination procedures of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) of Kyrgyzstan discussed by UNESCO

The second in a series of UNESCO training workshops will be held in the framework of the project "Strengthening national capacities for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in Central Asia" with the financial support of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 28-31 May 2013 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO organized the seminar. The workshop was conducted for governmental, academic and educational institutions, crafts, traditional music communities, and civil society.

The workshop will provide an opportunity to improve participants' knowledge of international mechanisms of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. In particular, participants will gain practical experience on how to complete application forms for submitting ICH elements to the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, and the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Participants will also learn about programmes, projects and activities for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, receiving information on the forms and conditions for international assistance.

It is planned that after the training workshop participants from the Kyrgyz Republic will gather at the Ministry of Culture to discuss the outputs of the training, coordinate current safeguarding measures in all administrative areas of the Republic, as well as to develop and approve future activities. It is planned to update the national inventory of the ICH, improve the process of collecting of data. The National ICH Committee will have its consecutive meeting to discuss and approve responsible institutions for preparation and submission of nominations of national and shared ICH elements.
