Sub-regional meeting to promote Intangible Cultural Heritage in Central Asia

From 18 to 20 November UNESCO Almaty Office with the support of International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICHCAP) will be held a Sub-regional meeting on Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage at Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions in Central Asia

The priority topic for this years meeting is the safeguarding and integration of the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) into formal and informal education. Education and intangible cultural heritage are inextricably linked. The transfer of knowledge and skills related to ICH through formal and non-formal education plays a central role in efforts to safeguard ICH.

More than 40 representatives of cultural and educational sectors from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, specifically experts in TVET, representatives of National Commissions for UNESCO, representative of the UNESCO specialized center for TVET and UNESCO-UNEVOC training, representatives of UNESCO and ICHCAP will participate in the event.

Furthermore as part of the event, on 18 November the ALATAU Traditional Art Theater will host the official opening of the Central Asian Film Festival and the ICH photo exhibition. The film festival starts with the screening of a film about the art of making Kazakh dombra.
The main goal of the event is to promote and raise awareness about ICH among the representatives of the TVET system, to expand national, regional and international networks of TVET institutions and to ensure cooperation and networking among cultural experts.
